Sažetak
The structure of silicon nitride has introduced many question over the years of examination. Today it's certain that silicon nitride appears in 3 solid phases: two of hexagonal crystal lattice (alpha and beta), and the amorphous one. Both crystal types consist of SiN4 thetrahedra forming 3-dimensional network by corner sharing of each nitrogen by three silicon atoms. Owing to their good mechanical and thermomechanical properties Si3N4 has experienced, during the past 20 years, a remarcable application rise in mechanical engineering: i.e. at the construction of parts working at high temperatures.
