Sažetak
Deep vibro compaction is often used to improve bearing capacity and settlement of soft soils that are other-wise unsuitable for foundation of structures. The method has quite successfully been used at many projects in urban environments in Croatia in the last several years. A serious problem related to any soil improvement technique is quality control. The Geotechnical department of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Univer-sity of Zagreb used a technique measuring the average soil stiffness increase obtained by vibro compaction and vibro replacement successfully. The technique employs the spectral analysis of surface waves (SASW) generated by induced impact on the soil surface. The paper presents the Croatian experiences in the applica-tion of deep vibro compaction technology for soil improvement in urban environments, and of the quality control technology for the works carried out, using the technique of spectral analysis of surface waves.
