Sažetak
In most government programs it is assumed implicitly that more wealth in general leads to more well-being. The general line of thought is that if people have (more) money, they can buy (more) products and services, which will improve their standard of living, and consequently also their well-being. The evolving body of research we have described in this paper throws doubt upon the efficacy of the pursuit to maximise economic growth, and suggests that greater weight needs to be given to other factors that shape happiness and satisfaction. Indeed, many of the more important of these factors may have actually been sacrificed in the scramble for economic growth, such as a sense of community, altruism and the quality of close relationships and leisure time.
