Sažetak
Although Gaukroger's book might not be recommended for a complete beginner (mostly for its omissions, like the absence of a discussion of magic and alchemy, whose contribution to modern science is unquestionable – which is, I presume, taken for granted by Gaukroger), it is recommended for any scholar interested in the question of the emergence of modern science: Gaukroger manages to offer a clear exposition of the majority of the current problems in the area, presents the dominant views and solutions of those problems, providing us with the most comprehensive overview of the status quaestionis so far.
