Sažetak
Treatment of hypertension is far from satisfactory. Patients’ poor compliance is an important reason, but therapeutic inertia is also evident.Cardiologists (C) and nephrologists (N) are physicians most often involved in the treatment of hypertension. The goal of our retrospective study was to investigate if there is any difference between C and N in the treatment of hypertension. The medical records of all patients discharged from both departments of nephrology (n = 144) and cardiology (n = 232) were evaluated. There were no differences in age and blood pressure values between the N and C groups. Mean serum creatinine values were higher in N than in the C group (306.9 ± 244.8 vs. 99.6 ± 24.9 μmol/1). Differences in classes of prescribed antihypertensive drugs were observed between C and N for calcium-channel blockers (CCB) (31% vs. 70.1%), ACEI (72.4% vs. 55.6%), ARB (12.5% vs. 14.6%), betablockers (BB) (43.4% vs. 66.8%), and diuretics (52.1% vs. 70.2%). Alpha blockers were used in only 8 N patients, and centrally acting drugs in 12 N and C patients each. ACEI, BB, and diuretics were much more frequently prescribed by cardiologists, and CCB by nephrologists. The increased level of serum creatinine in patients from the department of nephrology could not explain this difference.
