Sažetak
In Croatia, the data shows that sensitivity to the problem has grown but also raises the question of the efficiency of Law on Protection against Family Violence (Croatian Parliament, 2003), Protection of abused persons within families: Plan of Action (2004) and National Strategy of Protection against Family Violence (2005-2007) implementation. Survey was conducted to examine: (1) the attitudes and beliefs of professionals toward family violence and violence against women, (2) professional experience with violence, (3) perception of possibilities, working conditions and motivation of other professionals, (4) experiences in interdisciplinary collaboration, (5) differences in educational needs in local community as aims, contents and methods of education. Survey was conducted in County of Istria, Croatia, on public health and primary care providers (physicians and nurses in family medicine, emergency department, gynaecology, dentists and dental assistants, community health nurses and public health professionals), social welfare providers, police, justice and NGOs. Research covered 425 professionals (64% of total number working in County): 287 in health care, 47 in social welfare, 60 in police, 30 in justice, 67 in NGOs). Confidential questionnaire and focus groups work was used in research. Survey’ s results demonstrated that incest and child abuse were perceived as the most serious type of violence, than violence against women, elderly and, at the end, violence against men. Health care professionals perceived men’ s violence against women and women’ s against men more serious than professionals in social welfare perceiving more serious child physical and psychological abuse and elderly physical abuse. Male respondents perceived women’ s violence against men more serious than female respondents perceiving incest and child abuse more serious than male respondents.
