Sažetak
The aim of this paper is to describe the adaptation of anglicisms in French on the morphological level following R.Filipovi}'s theory of languages in contact. In examining the adaptation of loanwords on the morphological level two elements are analysed: a)the citation form of loanwords and b) morphological categories of parts of speec. The analysis of the cication form is carried out on the basis of transmorphemisation (substitution of bound morphemes on the morphological level). The analysis of morphological categories is regulated by primary and secondary adaptation. Three parts of speech are analysed: substantives, adjectives and verbs. Substantives: Analysing morphological categories of gender and number, it can be concluded that: 1)nouns with animate, particularly with human, referents follow natural gender; in the class of inanimate, nouns are assigned the gender on the basis of a)final syllables and suffixes, b)masculine tendency and c)contamination; 2)as to the category of number, most English loan nouns undergo complete transmorphemisation; however some are kept in the form of a compromise replica. Adjectives: Adaptation of adjectives is performed by using a two stage method: a)primary and b)secondary adaptation. Adjectives directly borrowed by the receiving language undergo primary adaptation. They keep most morphological features of English adjectives which means that they are still in the compromise replica form. On the other hand, those adjectives derived from English loan nouns which were previously integrated morphologically into the system of nouns in French are subjected to secondary adaptation. They undergo complete transmorphemisation displaying all the features of French adjectives. Verbs: Adaptation of loan verbs is carried out within the framework of primary adaptation.
