Sažetak
Purpose: In absence of a public education program of breast awareness and breast self-examination (BSE) along with a lack of medical equipment, breast cancer happens to be too often diagnosed only at a late stage. In the European community, 84% women know that they should practise BSE, mainly through the so-called "shower cards" containing the instructions for BSE. In addition, a pilot project to teach BSE with "Breast Awareness Teaching Aid" - a tool for demonstration of the correct way of performing BSE, has been lounched this year. Methods: During their home visit, 10 family care nurses from four health institutions demonstrate properly performed BSE with teaching aid. A questionnaire including 26 questions has been composed in order to examine woman`s breast awareness and their attitude towards BSE. The whole study includes 200 woman aged 18-60 years. After five months the same women are to be questioned again. Conclusion: It is expected that at least 80% of women will learn how to perform BSE, of whom 40% will gain a habit of regular BSE.
