Sažetak
Education in psychooncology is necessary to be organised in two levels: 1) Education of experts, especially health professionals (doctors, nurses) as well as the others included in professionals team. The contemporary trend in medicine is holistic approach to the patients, which is especially important in oncology. Psychological factors in development, treatment and rehabilitation of these patients are very important. Health professionals should learn the basic knowledge and techniques of communication skills and psychotherapy in order to act more efficiently. Such kind of education can also help professionals to pass through the very stressful job and protect themselves from stress related illness and disturbances like burn-out syndrome, traumatic counter transference, vicarious traumatisation etc. The professionals would be trained in all necessary skills and knowledge in various postgraduate courses. 2) Education of population through preventive programmes. Education of population should include all three form of prevention. Paraprofessionals have very important role, especially individuals who themselves had malignant disease experience and their engagement should be complementary to professionals.
