Sažetak
The inverter is designed to change the existing electrical heating output of a diesel-electric locomotive from 1500 V DC to 1500 V, 50 Hz, wich is required for some passenger coaches. GTO thyristors were chosen as the key component because of the high voltage and the high power of the inverter. GTO drivers have optical signal transmission for thyristor switching and diagnostics. Undeland snubbers with low-inductive capacitors are used. Control electronics module consists of a SMPS unit, CPU, protection and measuring unit and display unit for state and fault detection. The inverter is protected against output short circuit, overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, overheating and thyristor control faults. Mechanical design is strongly limited by available space and the need to minimise parasitic inductances in paths containing thyristors during the turn-off. Detailed tests were performed on the inverter in the workshop. After that the inverter was built into a locomotive and has been successfully tested under full load and various types of passanger coaches and is now a ordinary exploitation.
