Sažetak
Objective: The first change that occurs in the atherosclerotic process is impaired endothelium-dependent vasodilation, which appears before the morphological changes of arterial wall. One of the most important risk factors for the atherosclerosis is the low density lipoprotein (LDL), especially in its oxidized form. It has been demonstrated that vitamin E as an antioxidant vitamin can reduce the susceptibility of LDL cholesterol to oxidation and therefore inhibit the progression of atherosclerosis. Therefore we hypothesized that vitamin E intake might be associated with improvement of the endothelium-dependent vasodilation and the regression of the morphological changes of the carotid wall...
