Sažetak
The century that lies ahead of us will be characterized by the power of religion. After the end of secular ideologies, the great world religions are returning as powerful guides of how to lead one's life, as guarantors of cultural identity and as creative powers of religiously influenced policy. This also applies to non-western Christianity, which will soon comprise over a billion believers. The tragedy about Western European Christianity is that in spite of such return of the religions, it will not take place in public that will afford it any influence. The fact that Christianity has lost its cultural power and that secularity has been allowed to take its place is too deeply rooted in history and continues to exert too much of an influence at the present time for even the sligtest suspicion of a reversal of this process to seem justified. Any kind of civilization must have an answer to the question: what is that makes a human being. What answers we will finally find in our civilization of today with its many different secular and religious tendencies remains a secret to our eyes, which are fixed upon the present.
