Sažetak
AIM: This study analyses cardiovascular drugs usage (ATC- C drug group) during the five-year period (2001-2005) in the University Hospital Centre, Rijeka, Croatia. The aim was to detect and compare the most frequently prescribed drugs in the ATC-C group and to analyse the use of each of these drugs financially. METHODS: The use of the drugs was evaluated according to defined daily doses (DDD) per 100 bed-days according to the WHO Collaborating Centre for Drug Statistics Methodology, and financially in Euro per 100 bed-days. RESULTS: During the five-year period total consumption of the drugs from the C group was 225.22 DDD/100 bed-days and financially 135.55 Euro/100 bed days. The drugs from the C01 group were the most utilized (64.50 DDD/100 bed days) and also financially in the first place (61.73 Euro/ 100 bed days). The utilization of the drugs acting on the renin-angiotensin system (C 09) was in the second place (50.88 DDD/ 100 bed days) and then calcium channel blockers (44.30), diuretics (35.72), beta-blockers (18.06). Financially in the second place were calcium channel blockers (27.77 Euro/ 100 bed days) and then C 09 (15.19), diuretics (12.69), and beta-blockers (10.53). The most frequently used drugs were furosemide (31.64 DDD/ 100 bed days) and then succeeded by amlodipine (30.46), ramipril (21.29), amiodarone (17.62), and in the fifth place isosorbide mononitrate (16.70). The first five drugs financially were epinephrine (22.16 Euro/ 100 bed days), nimodipine (17.79), amiodarone (14.95), dobutamine (12.81), and furosemide (11.20). CONCLUSION: This study showed specifics of drugs usage in the hospital setting and their financial consequences. Comparing these hospital cardiovascular drugs results usage and the results of previously performed investigations in out-hospital setting (drugs on prescription) the most important difference is in C 01 drug group (utilization and financially), but other groups reflect the usual drug prescription in everyday practice.
