Sažetak
The layered settlement Topusko is in Banovina, 46 km southwest of Sisak, at the divide between the Glina River and Čemernica watersheds, near medicinal hot springs that gush forth in the valley between the slopes of Petrova and Zrinska mountains, below Nikolino Hill. For every period from prehistory to the high Middle Ages Topusko has yielded magnificent finds: from the Bronze Age more than a hundred clay statuettes from Turska Kosa, from Roman times inscriptions, the riches of the "amber grave" and remains of the architecture of grand hot springs ; from the early 13th cent. remains of a Cistercian monastery complex, the easternmost extent of the French Gothic style of that time. A considerable part of Topusko is a protected historic district. Archeological remains in part were found accidentally, in the course of construction and infrastructure work in the town or by reconnaissance. Systematic investigations at nearby Turska Kosa began in 1981 and are continuing, and investigations by the Archaeological Institute in the area of the Roman hot springs, begun in 1990 with a plan for many years of intensive work, were interrupted by the war. After the war, since 1996 conservation of the Gothic portal with accompanying rescue archeological investigations has been organized.
