Sažetak
A great part of Dlmatia and the neighbouring areas of Bosnia and Hercegovina gravitate towards the Clinical Hospital Split, and its Department for Neurology and Neurosurgery. It is very hard to collect valid statistical data concerning the treatment of the sick, since some of them are being examined and treated in different institution, i.ed. in the course of their treatment they go through several different health centers in Croatia. Throughout two years, 198 patients with brain tumor have been treated in this institution, 103 of them were women and 95 men. The life span of our patients varied from 12 to 99, with average life span being 57.3. Most of our patients underwent a neurosurgical treatment, with the exception of the oldest female patient aged 99, and three more inoperabile patients. Surgical treatament was performed in this institution and at the Clinical for Neurosurgery Zagreb. Several patients underwent radio- and chemo- terapy. During that period we took care of 74 patients with established by-apsses in the brain, 30 women and 44 men. patients life span varied between 29 and 79, the average life span being 58.5. We can conclude that expansive formation in brain, with rare exceptions, is a disease of the middle aged people. During the mentioned period seven patients have been hospitalized for neurologic symptomatology caused by arterio-venous malformations. Patients life span was from 11 to 68, average age being 37.5. We must point out that some of the patients were hospitalized on several separate occasions due to the complications of the disease.
