Sažetak
The aim of this work was to investigate the influence of different chin rest mountings on the vibrational behavior of the violin body in its whole interval of frequencies (from 196 Hz or note G3 to 3520 Hz or note A7). We compared the vibrational patterns obtained for two standard chin rest mountings (with one and two clamps) and the new mounting to the corresponding patterns obtained for the free resonator of the violin. For investigating the vibrational behavior, the time-averaged digital holographic interferometry method was applied. This experimental method is highly appropriate for such investigations, since the sound field emitted by the vibrating surface of a musical instrument is defined by the vibrational modes of that surface. It can be concluded that, on the bases of the obtained experimental results and the corresponding statistical estimates, the newly proposed solution for fastening the chin rest to the violin body significantly less influences the vibrational properties of the free resonator than the standard solutions with the clamping elements. In other words, new design for the chin rest mounting, proposed by Mr. V. Proskurnjak, is better suited than the standard mountings for preserving the original properties of the free resonator of the violin.
