Sažetak
Within the scope of implementing the St. Vincent Declaration in the field of diabetic retinopathy, the Vuk Vrhovac Institute in Zagreb is intensively involved in education of patients and physicians. Efforts are also directed al evaluation of results. With this aim, the Retinopathy Registry was created. The standardized record form proposed at the London Meeting 1990 is used, the data are entered by means of dBaseIII+. Data for 4568 patients followed at this Institute have been entered into the data base. Analyses show that 72.9% of patients have been examined by an ophthalmologist within the past two years, 43.7% have non-proliferative and 6.7% have proliferative retinopathy, and 18.2% of patients have maculopathy. Among the examined patients, 0.7% have become blind within the past two years. The number of patients with proliferative and non-proliferative retinopathy and maculopathy, increased with duration of diabetes. Significant association was found between frequency of retinopathy and therapy (p<0.001) as well as hypertension (p<0.001). Although not an epidemiological study, a structured analysis of the available data contributes to quality control and quality improvement in diabetes health care.
