Sažetak
The study was designed to assess the clinical response to controlled-release carbidopa/levodopa (Sinemet CR) in patients with PD previously treated with standard carbidopa/levodopa (Sinemet). We studied 24 patients with idiopathic PD (F/M=16/8, aged 37-67 years). All had been treated with standard carbidopa/levodopa (Sinemet) preparations for at least 4 years. Standard Sinemet wad replaced by an equivalent dosage of Sinemet CR for 1 week, after which the dosage and administration was adjusted. Parkinsonian disability was assessed by the Unified Parkinson`s Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) before Sinemet CR treatment and 1, 2, 4, 8, 12 weeks after the CR formulation was introduced. In addition to the UPDRS evaluation, all patients kept a daily diary of their mobility and sleeping times and of "on" and "off" periods.
