Sažetak
Total number of collected horse flies during 1992-1996 was 18503 and within this sample only 202 or 1,09% of the collected specimens were males classified into 24 species. Of these 24 species, 18 are linked to the continental areas of Croatia. These 18 species were in most cases collected from either oak-trees: Querco-carpinetum croaticum, Genisto elate-Quercetum roboris and Carpino betuli-Quercetum roboris typicum or of beech and firs Abieti-Fagetum illyricum.
There are 16 species that are linked to the Mediterranean part of Croatia. These were in most casers collected in the complexes consisting of oak-trees and white hornbeams Querco-Carpinetum orientalis croaticum and on the blooms of the plants Paliurus spina christi and Clematis flamula. Males of the species Chrysops viduatus, Atylotus loewianus, Tabanus bromius, Tabanus glaucopis, Tabanus tergestimus and Philipomyia graeca were collected in both parts of Croatia. Males of most species (13) were collected at the air temperature of 24oC and 25oC, while males of other species were collected ot the air temperature between 20oC and 26oC.
According to the consulted literature and after the examination of other collections of horse flies, the number of determinated species of horse flies has been increased, so that now there are 38 species and one subspecies of male horse flies in Croatia.
