Sažetak
Sport in contemporary tourism becomes not only the contents of the stay, but frequently the main motive for travelling to a particular tourism destination. Such a relationship between tourism and sport results in the development of a particular type of tourism - sports tourism. The interdependence of contemporary tourism and sport is based on: the factors which lead to the development of tourism and sport ; the functions generated by tourism and sport ; the economic effects. On the basis of the results obtained from the research and here confirmed as well, the following may be concluded: sport, together with all its forms and programs (contents) is the basic factor of the development of contemporary tourism ; sport in tourism has numerous functions which are manifested through the social (humanistic) and economic values ; the economic effects of sport in tourism show that sport is the generator of additional economic values in tourism which are manifested through direct and indirect economic effects.
