Sažetak
This study is performed in order to compare the performance of classical two dimensional (2D) and three dimensional (3D) ultrasound, both with power Doppler technology, in visualisation of placental vascular network during ongoing pregnancy. Fifteen pregnant volunteers in third trimester of pregnancy were examined by 2D and 3D power Doppler ultrasound. The aim of the study was to follow the branching of the fetal main stem vessels as far as possible distally, as well as that, to assess the placental vascular network densitiy in normal pregnancy and pregnancies complicated by intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and preeclampsia (PE). There was no difference in the visualisation of primary placental stem vessels by 2D and 3D power Doppler. However, the 3D power Doppler performs significantly better distally, and difference becomes apparent being statistically significant on the level of secondary stem (p=0.03) and even more prominent on the level of tertiary stem vessels (p=0.0008). There was no difference in the placental vessel vascular density comparing normal pregnancy and pregnaneces complicated by IUGR and PE (p>0.05). Therefore we concluded that 3D is superior to 2D ultrasound with power Doppler technology in the determination of the distal vascular branches of the fetal placental blood vessels. As well as that, the physiologic change of spiral arteries in pregnancy does not have detectable influence on formation of placental vessels.
