Sažetak
Special operations (psychological operations, propaganda, political warfare etc.) are put to use in high-intensity conflicts to disseminate disinformation. By the creation of the global information space (cyberspace) in the 1990s, radical changes in the organisation, but also of the subject matter of public knowledge are taking place. Information warfare has become the dominant form of pursuing national, economic, political, cultural and other interests, with the aim to ensure the dominance of one’ s own information on the side of the adversary, in order to force him to make decisions that are not in his interest. The task of researchers into public knowledge is to start researching into information strategies that are used to shape public knowledge. The author has presented the examples of methods and techniques applied by Yugoslav intelligence services when conducting their special operations against Croatia during the Homeland War: Proboj, Labrador, Opera, Yutel operations etc. At the beginning of the 21st century, both the organisation and the subject matter of public knowledge changed. A new public knowledge has been created in the fight for information dominance as a result information strategies, and no longer of true and objective information. The primary criterion of assessing information is not its truthfulness, but “ the quality of having sense” , i.e. the relevance of information in relation to information strategies. The author comes to the conclusion that cognition has lost its primacy over communication, and that the main task of new communication networks is not to transfer true information.
