Sažetak
Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) make up to 99% of all enterprises in Croatian economy. They produce more than 44% of GDP while employing 60% of overall human capital. Their survival on the market is dependent on the systematic achievement and continuous improvement of high quality standards. The ultimate goal – to achieve business excellence, is only to be achieved if all business activities are well managed. For small and medium enterprises this goal is not easy to attain due to a limited number of employees, their lower education level compared to big enterprises, insufficient knowledge on specific business topics, lack of experience, their expectations of rapid results and the domination of the owner and his/her knowledge and culture. The purpose of this paper is to point to the importance of using consulting services in SMEs. All enterprises, regardless of being big or small, form a complex system of entrepreneurial processes, which processes should occasionally include people from outside the system that have knowledge, experience and abilities to direct them toward the right course.
