Sažetak
With the objectives of physics teaching in mind as well as with the unknown situation of the amount and level of adopted basic physical concepts after finishing school, we decided, together with students – future physics teachers, to design and carry out a survey on scientific literacy in sample of adult population in the town of Rijeka. The survey has been done as an anonymous query through which 167 adult people aged 20 to 75 years were examined. The survey questions were of two types ; the first part consisted of questions with single-choice offered answers, while the second consisted of conceptual questions to be answered by examinee. All the questions were selected as ones that could be easily answered after having elementary school physics curriculum. This work will present the results of the survey, with the analysis of the basic physical concepts (such as mass, weight, density, pressure, buoyancy) understanding.
