Sažetak
Operational Research (OR) models have been developed, both internationally and locally, during last 30 years. Their implementation is particularly appropriate in solving optimization problems in the field of project management and construction management. Most of the OR models have been developed within the framework of the so called Second Direction of OR Development, i.e. in the direct solving of special classes of OR optimization tasks. The paper discusses the types of problems in construction industry which can be successfully solved using OR models. The fundamental goals that OR models should achieve when applied in construction industry are also given, as well as the reasons for the discord between the degree of development of OR models and their acceptance among builders. The analysis of the level of application of OR models in the Croatian construction industry shows that they are well applied in scientific research, particularly in the preparation of Master’ s and Doctoral theses. In professional construction practice, only network models are used to calculate time and cost construction plans, and, somewhat less, linear programming models in the optimization of costs in the production of basic materials and logistic of construction. A rising trend is also observed in Croatia in the implementation of statistical and heuristic models, as well as simulations in scientific and professional research.
