Sažetak
The basic characteristic of modern production and operation is the requirement for full control of production depending on the punctuality of shipment. The time deviations from the plan have far-fetching, negative consequences on the business operation and the survival of a company on the market. Transport companies and system appear on the market in several roles – as business subjects and as component parts of a complex business process. In both cases the aim is to maximally improve the operation and the quality of service by cost rationalization, improvement of regularity and safety of shipment. The advent and the increasingly widespread implementation of ITS has allowed a number of improvements in this field. The work will present the study of the operations improvement and the related efficient shipment tracking. The evaluation of trends will also be provided, as well as their possibilities in solving the transport problems. The research results indicate key role of ITS in solving the transport issues today and in the future. The assumption of the modern shipment tracking, based on the past scientific and technological moment and trends, is the ever wider usage of new electronic surveillance systems – RFID and ITS and the growing level of networking in the society.
