Sažetak
One of the specific activities carried out through this research is an assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the present administrative practices and ca-pacities in the application of the relevant environmental acquis in the local communities in the country, with reference to the regulatory acts in each coun-try which define the role of the local and regional authorities in implementation of environmental acquis. The four towns have been analysed in detail (Zadar, Split, Virovitica and Čakovec). The proposals are the background for the revi-sion of existing administrative regulations to enhance the implementation of the relevant EU environmental legislation. The scope of these recommended revi-sions means that it is necessary to consider not just the legal and regulatory framework for implementation of environmental acquis but also any adminis-trative and technical guidance documents
