Sažetak
The paper includes the quantitative aspect and relationship between employment and output (GDP) in the European Union and in the Republic of Croatia. Although employment is the function of a great number of different factors, it is evident that it is most closely related with the movement of output. The first half of the nineties, and especially 1993 in which year the EU realised a decline of the GDP in relation with the year before, was marked with a decline of employment in the EU, and a rise in unemployment. These movements had been stopped in 1995, when the EU as a whole, along with a rise in the GDP, marked an increase in employment and decrease in unemployment. Hence the initiatives for the revival of production are at the same time also initiatives for the opening of newjobs and reduction of unemployment.
