Sažetak
Research was conducted on a sample of 96 boys and 114 girls in the first three grades of primary school at two primary schools in Zagreb. The research was conducted with the aim of establishing the status of morphological characteristics of boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 10 and the difference of the system of morphological characteristics with respect to age and gender. It is concluded that in younger school age there is a significant gender dimorphism and growth and development and related changes of morphological significance are more dominant in girls. A higher discrimination coefficient at this age is evident in girls which can be related with a closer age to adolescent development. The factor structure especially of the first canonical discrimination functions, which by nature of things explain greater variability, shows a domination of body height in both genders of a subsample. The proven gender dimorphism should be taken into consideration when determining the burden in all organizational types of work with these age groups.
