Sažetak
Several elements are included in full scale telemedicine/telepathology consultation service among which image transmission is one. Most of the studies and programs dealing with telepathology are so far concentrated on the question "how to transmit as many as possible representative images in the shortest time possible?". Although it is the basis for all telepathological endeavour it is by far not the only one. Issues such as communication protocol (chart), safety of patient data and documenting the final diagnosis are of great practical (legal) importance. Mostly, telepathology systems were designed to fulfil the needs for occasional consultations with low data income and no need for long-term preservation of images and other patient data. To fulfil the goal of transmitting images together with patient data, and in the same time to get a flow chart of all the communications performed we linked the image databank ISSA to the telepathology/telemedicine program PHAROS. In this way all patient data are stored together on the sending side, transmitted together and stored together on the receiving side. If dynamic (on-line) communication is needed the images (together with respective data) can be placed on the PHAROS whiteboard and analysed in real time. All written communication is stored and can not be changed afterward. Also a second to second communication time chart is produced. Data safety is relatively good because of point to point communication and can be even enhanced when personal data are sent separately linked only by code to the rest of the file. Using this approach we have the feeling that many elements important for a routinely functioning telepathology practice can be accounted for.
