Sažetak
The objective of this research has been to develop and assess selected vacuum coating methods for fabricating membrane-electrode assemblies containing very low Pt loadings. These methods have included (1) ion beam decomposition of an organic precursor combined with simultaneous electron beam evaporation of Pt ; (2) ion sputtering of a Pt-C target ; and (3) direct electron beam physical vapor deposition. Pt-loaded electrodes in the range 0.01 to 0.3 mg/cm2 were prepared on a variety of materials including fluorionomer membranes and carbon cloth electrodes.
