Sažetak
Air washer is mostly used for the purpose of humidifying the air or just washing it (as a wet filter). In both these cases, water temperature is not controlled and is usually near to the inlet air wet bulb temperature. Air condition has the tendency to approach the saturation state at the inlet air wet bulb temperature. By controlling the water temperature and its flow rate, a limited control of air outlet condition can be achieved. Using the hot or cold inlet water can cause air to approach the saturation state at some other temperature, higher or lower than the inlet air wet bulb temperature. With sufficiently low water temperature air can even be dehumidified (as in dehumidifying coils)! The heat and mass transfer process in an air washer can be described using the general nondimensional mathematical model of evaporative cooling devices (published earlier). It correlates the air condition change to the area of the water air interface, the flow direction of water relative to air, and their respective flow rates. The finally obtained overall rating procedure is an algebraic routine which can be used either to calculate air outlet condition (if the water air interface area is known), or the required area for the desired air outlet condition. The only data that cannot be resolved within this (or any other) model is the water air interface area – it should be measured on the device for few water and air flow rates. The procedure is reasonably simple and its results can be estimated as accurate enough for the purpose.
