Sažetak
Significant changes in agroecological system of
fertile Slavonian plain will
occur by Danube-Sava canal construction
in Eastern Croatia. Passing of artificial
waterflow i. e. canal of 61,5 km lehght
will bring water required for irrigation of
approximately 40 000 ha of arable land.
In that way the sowing structure and total
production of food and agricultural raw
materials in the canal area will change.
Apart from the useful effects the
irrigation may have some bad concequences
such as deterioration of physical soil
properties, waterlogging as well as
the secondary soil salinization.
Thus, this paper discusses and consider all
possible irrigation inflences on
agricultural soil of the danube-Sav canal area.
On the basis of the developed studies, investigation,
projects and existing
knowdlage of soil, water and climate of
the region it is supposed that some soils
may be become swampy (swamp black soil,
hypopgley) in the future irrigation practice.
It is due to the usage of largr
amounts of water for irrigation or raising of the
ground water level becuase
of the slow outflow.
There is a smaller danger of the secondary
(anthropogenic) salinization of irrigated
salinization of irrigated solis since water quality
from the river Sava is relative favourable for irrigation
and grouind eaters of this region are not saltened (except limited localites).
all risk and bad consequences of
the irrigation of soil and crops may be
reduced and controlled by adequate water
management of the future irrigation in the
calan area (proper amounts of water,
net depth irrigation requirements, good drainage
as well as the choice of modern equipement
and farmers aducation.
