Sažetak
Steel and iron making industries have been driven by the requirements of maintaining or improving product quality and minimization of production costs. To meet these higher requirements, it is necessary to improve existing furnace by optimising their thermal efficiency. The objective of this paper is to establish conditions under which the pusher-type steel reheating furnace with two-sided heating, which serves to heat the charge to a suitable temperature for the following hot sheet-rolling operation, should be operated in order to maximize the thermal efficiency. The experimental investigations of furnace thermal operation have been carried out under operational conditions. Essential shortcomings in the furnace operation such as low intensity of charge heating in lower-zones, inadequate fuel combustion with torch burners of the tube-in-tube type and infiltration of cold air into lower-zones of furnace were established and analysed. The indispensable measures have been proposed with an estimate of their efficiency in order to decrease the energy consumption per unit of product.
