Sažetak
Phytoplasmas (genus ‘ Candidatus Phytoplasma’ ) from the class Mollicutes, are wall-less, endocellular plant pathogenic prokaryotes. These bacteria with reduced genomes infect several hundred plant species worldwide, causing significant economic losses. Until recently, there were no effective ways to control and cure phytoplasma diseases. In in vitro system comprising of Catharanthus roseus shoots infected with different phytoplasma reference strains, a change of exogenously supplemented plant growth regulator leaded to the remission of symptoms in phytoplasma-infected periwinkles and in the case of ‘ Ca. P. asteris’ , to phytoplasma-free plants. The effect of indole-3-butyric acid treatment depended on phytoplasma strain. Results support the hypothesis that phytoplasmas disturb the auxin levels and that exogenous supplement of these hormones is unfavorable for phytoplasma survival in the host tissues.
