Sažetak
In the 1980s, when about 20000 – 25000 ha of oilseed rape were grown exclusively in 9-11 agribusinesses, a rise in damage from many pests in these agribusinesses was observed. Yields gradually decreased and finally fell far below those obtained in other countries (1-2 t/ha). The expansion of the current cultivation area by 50000-100000 ha is just the first necessary step to increase the use of biodiesel and asist Croatia in meeting progressive EU Requirements. Our long-term experience with rape pests and current research show that increasing the scale of intensive oilseed rape cultivation will increase the range and abundance of pest species damaging the crop. Pollen beetle is the most important oilseed rape pest in Croatia. The damage caused by pollen beetle in 2007 ranged between 5-35%. Use of insecticides as preventive measures or lack of treatment with insecticides during infestation were the main reasons for reductions in yields. Farmers should use decision thresholds and forecasting techniques in order to carry out crop protection measures only when necessary, in a manner that minimizes pollution and damage to beneficial organisms.
