Sažetak
The development of intermodal water transport (sea transport - short sea shipping and walerborne traffic) suffers from development which lacks harmonization without the possibility of establishment an inter-operative transport system in terms of functionality, information and administration. The research in this paper will prove significance of interconnectivity of the water transport system in the integration of technological activities and the establishment of intermodal water transport by qualitatively and quantitatively evaluation the system functionality (efficiency, flexibility, sustainability). The harmonization of processes and the integration of the intermodal water transport system affect directly the development of transport i.e. unique transport policy and national transport policies. The changes on the global market and the development of information technologies are reflected also on the processes of cargo circulation and increase in using the water transport system and increase of the benefits of its usage compared to others. Therefore, the intermodal transport development strategy should be adopted at the level of national transport strategies, with this fact specially emphasized due to the existing policies and measures of stimulation and incentives to the unimodal transport: the stimulation of inland waterway transport (by investments into terminals on inland waterways) and SSS development. The technical and technological features reflect the specification of technical performances of the system, by market restrictions, forecasts of the volume of traffic demand and traffic supply in the near future. With this paper, authors intend to increase the safety and flexibility of transport, reduce the impact of transport on the environment and improve the performances of transport and to harmonize water transport. In the context of improving the compatibility and competitiveness of transport networks, increase in traffic safety and environmental protection, the integration of sea transport and waterborne traffic in the European transport networks represents an important segment of economy development.
