Sažetak
The enlargment of European Union raised the excpectations of becoming the most competitive economy in the world. Living in the era based on the information and knowledge as prime determinants of efficiancy and competitivness we have to be able to answer the key questions: what is the share of smart industries in national economy? What is the rate of scientific publications? How we present relations of science and technology to economic growth? Quantitave indicators present the state of art in transition of traditional society to the knowledge based society. Those indicators are created in order to present realistic state of national economies and Union overall in their efforts to become the most competitive economy of the world. Authors of this paper analisye those indicators and aim to prove that despite present large quantitive disproportins in those indicators among EU -25 on one side and candidate countries on the other side, long term effects of european enlargment will be benefitiary for all.
