Sažetak
In spite of the growing number of newspapers today and their ephemeral character, newspapers bring important cultural and historical information on many aspects of social life. Early newspapers from the end of 18th and through the 19th century are especially important because they contain information of national importance. Unfortunately, many of them are not marked in any historical documents. Newspaper print has specific characteristics which make it easily damaged. With the advance of the technology in the 19th century, wood pulp paper is being produced. Such paper discolours and is rapidly deteriorated (it contains reactive substances that speed deterioration process). Because of these characteristics and large format, newspaper material needs appropriate storage and preservation conditions. The aim of this poster is to present newspaper preservation efforts in Croatia and to give an overview of its efficiency.
