Sažetak
A quasi-elastic neutron scattering study of p-C6F4Br2 crystals is presented. Evidence is given for a low-lying phonon branch near the Brillouin zone boundary in the b* direction for a sample at 300 K. The associated incommensurate phase at 4.2 K has a wavevector of about 0.24 b*, and although there are distinct changes in the superlattice structure on cooling and warming, the transition is irreversible and no lock-in is evident.
