Sažetak
This research attempted to investigate the dynamics of self-esteem in adult age and its dependence on personal control strategies of development which people use. There is much research which has investigated these constructs, but the number of longitudinal studies is very small, so the main contribution of this research is in that it studied the dynamics of these processes within a period of one year. No significant difference was found in the level of self-esteem between the two measurements. In addition, a significant positive correlation between self-esteem in two measurements was found, and, therefore, it could be said that self-esteem remained stable between the two measurements. There was no significant difference in the use of the strategies of control between the two measurements, and their correlation was positive and significant. There was particularly no difference in the use of control between two measurements. A positive correlation between self-esteem and primary control was found. The participants with a higher level of self-esteem used the primary control more frequently. Also, a significant negative correlation between self-esteem and tertiary control was found ; the participants with a higher level of self-esteem used the tertiary control less frequently. There was no significant correlation between the secondary control and self-esteem either in first or in the second measurement. Furthermore, a significant difference was found between the participants with high and low levels of self-esteem in subjective health assessments. The participants with a higher level of self-esteem reported that their health status was significantly better than in the participants with a lower level of self-esteem.
