Sažetak
Adhesive dentistry was introduced into clinical dentistry in 1955 after developing the phosphoric acid etching technique on enamel. Acid etching dentin provides micro-mechanical retention for resin composites. However, today self-etching adhesives are very popular due to the simplified use and less postoperative sensitivity. They do not necessitate acid etching and rinsing procedure and in that way avoid numerous problems which occur during the procedure. Self etching adhesives dissolve smear layer and are based on simultaneous conditioning and infiltration of deminerilized enamel and dentinal substrate. Dissolved smear layer and crystals of hydroxyl apatite are incorporated in the new hybrid layer which is thinner but uniformly infiltrated. In order to save time and further system simplification one step self-etching adhesives were introduced. Several compromises have to be made when self-etching adhesives containing conventional methacrylate-based resin monomers are simplified into single bottle formations. Alterations in the composition of a single-bottle self-etching primer at increased storage temperature or prolonged storage time resulted in reductions of resin-dentin bond strengths.
