Sažetak
The reign of king Sigismund as the king of Croatia-Dalmatia was signified by two main characteristic. On the one hand, in the first period of his reign (from 1387.- to 1408.) he was continually occupied with conflicts with influential Croatian and Bosnian magnates. His first success in that conflict was his overtaking of the title of king of Croatia and Dalmatia in 1394 from Bosnian king Stephen Dabiša. Yet, during the autumn of 1402 Dalmatian cities of Zadar, Vrana, Split, Trogir, and Šibenik and later Skradin, Kotor, and islands of Brač, Hvar, Korčula, Rab and Cres came under the dominion of King Ladislas of Neapoli. As the most influential magnate in that period in Dalmatia and hinterland appears the duke Hrvoje Vukčić Hrvatinić to whom king Ladislas gave some land estates and cities in Dalmatia. Sigismund broke his power only in 1415. On the other hand, in the second period he was in conflict with Venice. In the period between 1411 and 1413 Sigimsund was in war with Venice which finshed with no success for the king since Venice preserved all the possessions in Dalmatia. Finally, the situation in Dalmatian even worsened for the king, since during the war 1418-1420 Venice widened its possessions on Kotor, Brač, Hvar, Korčula, Trogir, and Split. In the presentation I will to a great extent rely on the data recorded by Paul de Paulo, patrician of Zadar, who wrote his personal diary presenting information about various political events in Zadar, Dalmatia and Croatia connected to the rule of king Sigismund for the period between 1371.-1408.
