Sažetak
The stress coordinate the generalized stress response which take place when a stressor of any kind exceeds a threshold. Activation of the stress system lead to behavioral and peripheral changes that improve the ability of the organism to adjust homeostasis. Chronic exposure to fluctuating, external or internal challenge is particularly stressful. Stress response includes activation of integrated neuroendocrine and immune systems. A bidirectional intercellular (auto)regulatory circuits exist between the two systems, communicating through common signal molecules. These comprise neuropeptides, hormones and cytokines, and their receptors. Cytokine receptors on cells of the immune and nervous system seem to play a sensory and regulatory role enabling the brain to monitor the progress of immune responses. The brain modulate immune responses by neuroimmunomodulatory factors to alert the functional capacities of immune cells.
