Sažetak
The aspects-based approach was introduced to the career decision making by Itamar Gati as a new and eclectic way to address P-E fit. Career-related aspects refer to various categories of vocational variables such as interests, values, preferences, abilities, or work roles that can be used to characterise either individuals or career options in order to improve career decision making. For enhanced assessment of P-E fit, Gati suggested that, beside the typical level of an aspect, within-occupational variance and core aspects for an occupation should also be identified. This paper focuses on characterising the 120 most frequent occupations in Croatia by forty career-related aspects. Occupations were chosen from the Croatian Occupation Handbook representing all the types in Holland's typology. Occupational aspects were judged by four independent experienced vocational psychologists. Possible bias in judgements was minimised by using thorough job descriptions. Judges have characterised occupations on the five-level scale for every aspect in order to elicit the typical level of an aspect in occupation. Subsequently, they have identified the within-aspects variance on each scale to mark the range of other possible levels within an occupation. Finally, they have chosen several core aspects that are most significant to the characterisation of an occupation. This paper discusses three issues: relations between the extremity of typical level of aspects and the level of within-aspects variance ; relations between the extremity of typical level and the perception of an aspect as a core aspect ; and relations between within-aspect variance and perception that aspect as a core aspect. Results are discussed in the context of P-E fit theories.
