Sažetak
The music instruction provides children with skills for their musical expressions and knowledge of their cultural heritage. There are many learning theories which have influenced all aspects of early childhood education. Examination of these theories from the perspective of a music educator may lend new insights about how children develop musically and may help teacher in planning more effective programs of music education. In this work we shall present the historical perspective of the development of early music education. We shall also explain some theories which can be applied in the practice of early music education: Piaget’ s stage-dependent theory, Bruner’ s theory, Gardner’ s theory of artistic development and Gordon’ s music learning theory. The author stresses that there is no one theory which meets the needs of all children ; the theory supplies us with the knowledge about children, but we modify it, according to the needs of the children and the actual situation in the classroom. Key words: learning theory, historical perspective, music education, musical capacity.
