Sažetak
This book contains the papers to be presented at the Special Workshop Advanced Numerical Analysis of Shell-like Structures taking place at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Zagreb, Croatia, from 26 to 28 September, 2007. There are seven keynote lectures and nineteen contributed papers. All contributions are printed from camera-ready copies submitted by the authors. The workshop is held in the frame of the joint research project between the researchers from Institut für Werkstoffe und Mechanik im Bauwesen at Technische Universität Darmstadt, Institut für Baustatik at Universität Karlsruhe (TH) and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Zagreb. The project has been approved and supported by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany. The main objective of the workshop is to bring together researchers with common interest in numerical modeling of shell-like structures. These very complex structural components have attracted a considerable interest in the computational mechanics community. Special attention has been directed to the development of numerical algorithms based on the finite element formulations. However, other numerical formulations have been considered too. The invited keynote speakers will address recent advances in the analysis and design of shell structures. The state-of-the-art in computational methods in mechanics, software development and engineering practice for shell-like structures is highlighted. Advanced computational techniques including different finite element formulations in linear and nonlinear analysis are considered. Modeling of isotropic as well as composite structures together with inherent errors is discussed. Furthermore, the workshop will provide an excellent environment to highlight open questions regarding accuracy and efficiency in numerical analysis. This is also an opportunity for valuable interactions between junior and senior researchers that may result in new ideas as well as new promising research directions. The organization of the Workshop by the Croatian Society of Mechanics and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Zagreb, is gratefully acknowledged. We express our gratitude to the Central European Association for Computational Mechanics, the German Association for Computational Mechanics and the University of Zagreb under whose auspices this workshop is held. In particular we would like to thank our sponsors: Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Croatian Academy of Science and Arts, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture and Ministry of Science Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatia. We gratefully acknowledge the valuable contribution of the invited speakers who gladly accepted our invitations as well as the authors of the contributed papers. We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this workshop. Special thanks go to the research assistants of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, Dr. Igor Karšaj and Tomislav Jarak for their contribution in the organization of the Workshop and Marin Blažetić for his many hours of efforts in creating the web pages and designing this book.
