Sažetak
In this paper an overview of existing projects and scientific research in the area of sustainable development that are being performed at Materials Department and Structural Department, Faculty of Civil Engineering in Zagreb is given. In order to develop Croatian economy and enhance the quality of life, it is of great importance to synergise tradition with sustainability in all fields of construction. Environmental protection and energy saving are crucial problems in all fields of human activities, especially in production and industry. Today in Croatia there are still many human activities that can not be identified as sustainable and one of them is concrete industry. Concrete industry today is largest consumer of natural resources and one of the largest waste producers. That is why there is a need of upgrading concrete industry and creating one that is environmentally friendly and sustainable.
