Sažetak
In the period from July 1991 to December 1992 during the Croatian defence war in the region of Osijek Baranja County, a group of patients was followed-up from 4 year. Eighty one (81) injured (14-88 years old, mean age 29) by explosive device or firearms, were treated in University Hospital of Osijek. At admittance the means Glasgow Coma Scale was 9 (minimum 3, maximum 15). We have additionally analized the described state of consciousness upon the arrive to the hospital. Most of the injured has sustained multiple injuries, from this reason it was necessary to determine the complexity of the injuries according to the Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS-Scale). In most cases bone or metal fragments were found in brain tissue. In all the injured a brain CT was done. Most of the injured were transported to the hospital within 40-50 minutes (minimum 25, maximum '70). Systematic and continued rehabilitation resulted in good neurological recovery. The authors believe that such good results described, after severe craniocere-bral injuries could assigned to the relatively young age of injured, early neurosur-gical treatment, in some cases followed by specific neurosurgical procedures, and the systematic continued neurological and psychological rehabilitation.
