Sažetak
The present dictionary is intended as a practical reference tool for • university students taking undergraduate and graduate courses in English grammar • practicing teachers of English. It gives guidance on commonly used grammatical concepts by providing simple definitions and carefully chosen examples. No theoretical concepts are explained (or debated) beyond the framework or the theoretical level of the present compendium. There are all in all 442 headwords described in 395 alphabetically arranged articles, with systematic cross-references. The choice of the terms appearing as headwords is largely determined by the authors’ long-term teaching experience. The entries are terms recurring in various grammatical courses taught in the Department of English Language and Linguistics at the University of Osijek, where grammar includes not only syntax and inflectional morphology, but also derivational morphology, i.e. word formation. By necessity the choice of terms reflects the theoretical and descriptive frameworks employed in these courses.
